The Significance of Our Name
We chose our name very intentionally. A Family is about relationships. So is a church. Not s building, Not an institution. Not preservation of tradition and history. Church is about people who care for each other growing together in our relationship to God and to the world around us. This commitment to being a Family of Faith shapes who we are, what we do, and how we do it.
A Place to Connect
We see our task to connect people in relationships. To know God through connecting with Jesus. To know ourselves by connecting with God’s Word. To know how to love as God loves us by connecting people to each other. In a world full of broken connections we have the ministry of reconciliation to bring healing and build community.
Frequently Asked Questions About Family of Faith
Q: What is worship like at Family of Faith?
A: We call it relaxed traditional. During the service the whole family participates in unified prayers and reponsive readings, many drawn directly from the Bible. We focus on messages based on the authority of Scripture. We celebrate communion weekly. Our music is pulled from the compilation of the greatest contemporary worship songs of each decade of the last 500+ years. We try to blend the heritage of hymns and the freshness of modern praise.
Q: What is the “vibe” of Family of Faith on Sunday?
A: The casual feel of a family reunion combined with purposeful worship and community bonding. Lots of conversation before and after worship. A wide variety of clothing styles. Small enough to feel like home. Large enough to suppport each other in our life journey. Intimate enough to find someone who will listen to your story and pray with you.
Q: What is available for children on Sunday mornings?
A: We have Sunday School before service and supervised activities for young children available during service.
Q: Are there programs for teens and young adults?
A: Families are multi-generational. Once a person reaches maturity they are a part of the whole family. We do not divide our family into program categories. We feel we learn and grow best when the whole family blends its experiences, wisdom, and energy. We may have small groups based on shared commonalities that spring up organically but not formal programs.
Q: Are there opportunities for in-depth Bible Study?
A: Every Tuesday at 1:30 and 7:00pm there is a pastor led discussion on the Bible or a Bible-related topic that is open to whoever wants to attend. Additional opportunities are available. Contact us for all current options.
Q: Is Family of Faith a place where I can explore and mature in my faith?
A: Bring your questions, doubts, and previous experiences in churches and find a safe place to process them through the lens of faith. Bring your desire to grow in faith to a place rich with spiritual wisdom from real world faith challenges and triumphs. We grow together.
Q: Is Family of Faith a new church in Tiffin?
A: New to the north end, Family of Faith was the “church in the mall” for fifteen years.
Q: Who is the pastor?
A: Phil Moerdyk is in his tenth year as pastor of Family of Faith. Prior to becoming a pastor he was a K-12 educator for over thirty years, serving as a teacher, principal, and coach. He is a mentor and speaker for CRU campus ministries at both Heidelberg and Tiffin Universities.
